If you have been in the coupon game a while, you know all about double coupons. For the newbies, you may be wondering, “are double coupons still a thing?” The truth is that double coupons are a great way to save money on groceries. While double coupons can still be found, it is getting increasingly harder to find stores that offer this perk regularly. For those looking to save money on their grocery bills, however, they are worth seeking out.

What does Double Coupon Mean?

Double coupons are a type of discount that allows shoppers to save twice as much on an item. For example, many stores that allow for double coupons, do so up to $1. Say you have a $0.75 coupon off 1 box of Kraft macaroni. Instead of $0.75 off, the store may double it to $1.50 off. Many stores offer such a discount as a way to attract customers. And many limit the number of these coupons that can be used in a single transaction. So before you go shopping, check the store’s policy.

What Stores Double Coupons?

There are not a lot of nationally recognized stores that offer double coupons anymore. Your favorite retailers like Kroger, Publix, Walmart, and Target do not. However, there are a few stores that do. From what I gather, Piggly Wiggly, Food Giant, Ingles, Albertsons, and Shop Rite still offer double discount days. Many only double coupons under $0.50 on select days of the week. Alongside these stores, you should also talk with your local grocer. You may find that they offer double discount days as well.

Do Any Other Stores Double Coupons?

I have found that many stores have done away with coupon doubling over the years. As of January 2024, the only other stores that seem to be doubling coupons still are Safeway and Thriftway, alongside those mentioned above.

Do Stores Let You Stack Coupons?

While many stores aren’t doubling coupons, many still let you stack them. Double up your discounts in stores like CVS, Dollar General, Walgreens, and BJ’s by stacking store and manufacturer coupons. Rite Aid takes it up a notch, allowing you to stack two or all three of the following: manufacturer coupon, Rite Aid Manufacturer coupon, and Rite Aid Valuable coupon. Lastly, Target opens the door to extra savings by letting you stack a manufacturer coupon, a Target coupon, and a Target Circle offer through their free loyalty program.

Other Ways To Save

Aside from doubling up and stacking coupons, you can save on groceries in other ways. You can shop at stores that allow you to stack coupons. That means using a store-branded coupon with a manufacturer’s coupon to maximize savings. Another way to save money on groceries is to buy in bulk. You can often find good deals on bulk items, and you’ll save yourself a lot of trips to the store by shopping at places like Sam’s Club or BJ’s. By following these tips, you can save a significant amount of money on your grocery bills.
